These unique islands are located 600 miles of the coast of Ecuador and consist of a national park and marine reserve. There are 18 mains islands with Española (3.4 million years) being the oldest and Fernandina the youngest. (600,000 years) There is a population of around 23,000 living on only four of the islands. The islands are geologically young and famed for their vast number of endemic species, which were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. His observations and collections contributed to the inception of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. We operate land based tours, travellling by speed boat between islands (optional plane is available) We visit San Cristobal, with it´s beach of sealions, stunning sunsets and wonderful people, Santa Cruz the largest town on the islands to visit some extraordinary huge lava tunnels, not forgetting the famous Lonesome George and Isabela with it´s 3 kms beach, the second largest crater in the world, unique wildlife and historical places. |
